GSP Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Season, How many Seasons can I run each semester?

Typically Two Seasons can be scheduled per semester.
Preparatory Season commences close to the start of the semester and runs for approximately 8 weeks with 1 guidance session per week
Revisionary Season usually starts a month before the final semester exams, runs for 3-4 weeks with 2 guidance sessions per week.

While the coverage and syllabus is similar in both seasons, evidently students have more time in Prep Season compared to a faster-paced Rev Season.  Typically, students need guidance in their core subjects numbering 2 – 4 per semester. Students may choose to distribute their subjects across the two Seasons for convenience, focus, and for best results.

Please summarize GSP's Instructional system for students

As a student, when You enroll in a Guidance Group, your Guide will share an overall session plan for course coverage of your paper code syllabus, including per session syllabus portion allocation.

The Guide will tell you portions to study, what not to study, when to study, how to study, and how to score a high-first-class or a distinction grade in your semester exams. Not only that when you study 2Learn’s video courses and self-assess yourself, they will be able to view in real time what portions you have covered, how much you have done, what problems you faced, and what can be your strong or weak points, in the sessions, they will clarify your doubts and remove your misconceptions, and solve and help you solve tricky numerical from past year questions of your syllabus. These small group, in-person guidance and review sessions will be held in your neighborhood only, and focus on your semester exams, optionally with integrated competition and GATE prep.

The Guides will also share daily coverage milestones you are expected to cover in your self-study. Based on the course, number of enrolments, and overall comfort, Guide may choose, either Sequential Study Plan, or Spaced-Recall Study Plan for topic content. This study sequence and daily milestones will be shared with you orally or using 2Learn’s event calendar.

How are Guidance Sessions conducted?

  • Students are required to complete the portions as soon as possible, and as per the Study Plan recommended by the Guide. The Guide can choose either a Sequential Study Plan or a Spaced-Recall Study Plan for the week.
  • The Guide can set and share a daily activity target calendar with their students, and monitor their completion in real time.
  • The Guide will be able to view real time progress and performance of their students in 2Learn portal reports, and can send and receive messages over the secure platform. 2Learn course videos are available on secure app, while some modules and reports are accessible only over the browser.
  • As the next step, Students will assemble at chosen time and place for Guidance sessions.
  • In the Guidance Sessions, Guide will summarize Group and Individual performance and achievement, clarify their doubts and misconceptions, hold real time quiz using 2Learn system, solve and help them solve and practice past year, and anticipated problems, set next session goals, and guide them for optimum performance etc. In summary, the Guide has to ensure satisfaction, readiness and preparation of their students for Session portions.

How is GSP different from Traditional Tuitions?

College teaching remains dysfunctional and ineffective for a wide variety of reasons, leading to student incompetence and missed career opportunities.
So, for effective exam prep and subject matter competence, students look at other means – guides, notes, YouTube videos and in-person tuitions.

In traditional tuitions as we know them, the teacher start teaching subject matter from the scratch and till the end. This is great, provided time, travel, and price are not a constraint.
Unfortunately Professional course students just don’t have the time or energy to travel and sit on hard benches again after a long day at college. Apart from travel and preparation, too much time is invested/wasted for these classes, with little apparent output.
Students feel much better off with self-study at their own pace. They seek subject-specific, syllabus-customised, complete, authentic, high-quality audio-video content, taught by excellent teachers, with integrated assessments and solutions for self-checking, and laid out in a nice understandable way. In most cases this search turns out to be elusive. Metaphorically speaking, YouTube is like water-water everywhere, not a drop to drink. Finding level-appropriate, complete and authentic material is simply put – difficult. NPTEL is good for certification, and maybe research but not for semester exams, most students feel that these are old grainy quality videos.
And then there is the big question of everyday discipline and dedication of time to task, doubt clearing, and problem solving practice. Some students can manage on their own, but most students need hand holding on what to study, how to study, and how much time each topic and the overall course will take; and how do they ensure the daily descipline to put it all together in time for exams.

A typical core course requires 30+ teaching hours for cover concepts, not including PYQ solving. Based on their experience, tuition faculties charge 600 to a 1000 per hour for one-on-one sessions – which most students find prohibitive. Group sessions are difficult to locate.

GSP blends the advantages of high quality professional teacher, syllabus-customised and exam-oriented content, systematic approach, with the magic of In-person assistance to create a unique and beneficial blend for students at a fraction of time and cost of traditional tuitions.

How can somebody implement a program like GSP with YouTube or NPTEL etc?

A key difference between YT, NPEL etc., and the 2Learn system is the Active Learning pedagogy fostered through Confirmation of Learning. 2Learn has embedded several Just-in-time formative, as well as summative assessments for self-confirmation of learning. These are followed by Guide-led in-person assessment using rapid fire Active Quiz during Guidance Sessions.

Overall, the system of high-quality teaching content with video-embedded KCQs, followed by higher order SQQ, followed by ORM and outcome-linked notes, followed by PSM and then PPQ for each Topic, and then supported by KBL and StuQ, feedback, Course Forum and other gamifications is quite unique to 2Learn.

Last but not the least is the system of role and capability assignment to Guides who can leverage the Platform features to engage with their own separate group of students, and create value for students and themselves

What is the content of Pre-Learn portion?

  • Each Season features approximately 8 Guidance sessions, scheduled across 1 or 2 months. The Guide will allocate a Syllabus Coverage portion comprising of some Sections and Topics per session.
  • In the Advanced Learning Level, each Topic has at least 5 steps of learning activities to ensure a topic is completely addressed and fully prepared upon completion.
    • Active Learning Modules with in-video Knowledge Check Questions
    • Summary Quiz with 5 higher order Questions
    • Outcome Review Module, and Study Notes
    • Problem Solving Module video lesson
    • Problem Solving practice Quiz or Theory Problem Quiz
  • At the Professional Learning Level, two additional resources are available at the Section level for Gate Preparation for B.Tech students
    • GATE Problem Solving Module videos, solving past year GATE problems
    • GATE Past Year Practice Quiz
  • Additional resources at Course or Section level, such as Smart Reminders, Student Quiz module, Kaun Banega Lakhpati game, Virtual Programming Lab, Course Mastery game, Grade Book, and Performance Certificate, will help student learning. More details can be accessed at the website.
  • Students are required to complete the portions as soon as possible, and as per the Study Plan recommended by the Guide. The Guide can choose either a Sequential Study Plan for the week, or a Spaced-Recall Study Plan. Details on these plans is available in the pedagogy section. The Guide can set and share a daily activity target calendar with their students, and monitor their completion in real time.
In the Guidance Sessions, Guide will summarize Group and Individual performance and achievement, clarify their doubts and misconceptions, hold real time quiz using 2Learn system, solve and help them solve and practice past year, and anticipated problems, set next session goals, and guide them for optimum performance etc. In summary, ensure satisfaction, readiness and preparation of their students for Session portions.

What Revenue and time-investment should I expect?

  • Students of BTech, Diploma and some Applied Science subjects face 2-4 tough core subjects per semester, where they can benefit from guidance.
  • Typically, B.Tech core subjects in affilating universities experience 20-30%+ subject backlog. This roughly  means 12-18 student in a class of 60.
  • With some planning and diligent approach, a Guide should aim to enrol at least 10 students successfully, and as many for fresh attempt each semester.
  • Since 2Learn will provide the content, platform, system, assessment, reports, process, Guides can focus on student performance management for a larger number of subjects than they could if teaching in a traditional tuition format.
  • Guides will encounter Solo Guidance as well as Group Guidance batch requirements. The time and revenue outcomes for each will be proportionately different. We will consider just the Group Guidance batches here.
  • As a Guide, you could offer 2 seasons per sem. In each season, a subject will require approx 8 + 2 sessions. For Group Guidance, usually a 1-hour session should be sufficient for 1 to 5 students, and a somewhat longer session with increased enrolments.
  • Starting with in-person face to face guidance sessions, Guides may graduate to online or hybrid delivery as comfortable. Each mode has its own benefits and limitations.
  • Potentially, for appearing students, a CSE ProGuide can look at 3 subjects per semester, 3 domains – BTech, Diploma, and Applied Sciences, for students of 3 years  – 1st, 2nd and 3rd year. Backlog students and Revisionary season are further multipliers.
  • At the top of their game, with just 1-2 colleges and all by their own effort, in each season, a CS ProGuide could look at 3 subjects/year x 3 years /domain x 3 domains  x 10 enrols  = 90 enrols.
  • The number of enrols depends on the willingness, availability and proximity of students, and off course on Guide’s time, motivation, talent, effort and service-delivery-satisfaction. Guides may target further upside by targetting larger number of colleges, forming a faculty group to target more branches and subjects etc.
  • Each batch will require direct effort of at least 1-2 hour per week, and in-direct time dedication towards performance analysis, messaging, sundry query handling, marketing, counselling etc. Guides can expect a revenue of 2-4k per enrol.
